A few thoughts. First, how many of us are really surprised that it has come to this. In our free societies, killing massive numbers of people is really easy, and now we are starting to see just how easy it really is. What will be next? Taking out a high speed train and a few public busses, or maybe a few school killings at random places around France, or perhaps exploding some TNT inside a football stadium containing 80,000 fans. I liked this comment from Jihad Watch:
What is truly shocking is that so many are still shocked. When someone is shocked, they are essentially saying they have no idea how a specific event, in this case yesterday’s Paris attack, came to pass.
My prediction is that this current episode is the birth pangs leading up to a very uncomfortable delivery, and ditto for Germany where things are almost certain to get really messy over coming years.
Second thought: it would have been far more difficult for this sort of attack to have taken place in many parts of the USA because of the prevalence of handguns. Out of 153 people it would be highly likely that in much of the USA, apart from Obama’s dream playground, that someone would have pulled out a handgun and taken down a few of the terrorists before so many innocents were slaughtered.
Third thought: Israel has put up with this sort of terrorism for decades. I remember about a decade ago listening to radio news from Israel describing how another Pally Muslim had climbed on a bus and detonated her suicide vest, killing numerous civilians and schoolkids. And Europe’s response was to blame Israel for the attacks. Europe has had a bad record against Jews, and in many places in Europe this continues. Rather than stand alongside the Middle East’s only democracy and condemn Pally terrorism, Europe has for decades condemned Israel and demanded they give back land and share Jerusalem. The ‘hell’ Israel has faced for decades is now Europe’s ‘hell’ and the fires are getting hotter.
I hate to say this, but I could see this coming from a long way back, and if my prophecies continue to come true then things are going to get a lot worse before they get any better.
